epropulsion-navy-3-0-evo-arbre-long
Electric outboard motor Navy 3.0 Evo 3 kW, long shaft 75.9 cm, motor only

The Navy 3.0 Evo is a 3 kW direct-drive electric outboard motor powered by 48 V (input range 39–60 V DC). ePropulsion rates it equivalent to a 6 HP petrol engine. This long-shaft version (759 mm shaft) suits transoms over 500 mm; for transoms between 400 and 500 mm, the manual recommends the short-shaft version.

Specifications

The motor runs at 2 300 rpm at rated load and drives a factory-fitted two-blade composite propeller 10.2 × 6.7 in. The manufacturer claims a peak overall efficiency of 51 %. In long-shaft configuration it weighs 27.5 kg and measures 437 × 314 × 1 174 mm. Trim is manually adjustable to 5°, 10°, 15° or 20°, with three shallow-water positions (35°, 50° and 65°); manual tilt goes up to 80°. Recommended ambient temperature range: -10 °C to +45 °C.

Hydrogeneration

Under sail, the propeller drives the motor to recharge the battery, but only with an ePropulsion battery (connected via the communication cable for an E-series battery). The feature is enabled by default and starts when the throttle is in neutral, the battery is below 90 % charge, and the boat exceeds 6 km/h steadily for 4 seconds; it stops above 40 km/h or when the battery reaches 90 %. The manual advises not to leave the motor in the water when the boat reaches 30 km/h under sail or oars.

Protections

If the motor strikes an underwater object, a mechanism releases and tilts it; it must then be reset manually. A shallow-water mode keeps the lower unit free to lift in shallow water. Below 42 V, power is progressively limited; below 39 V the motor stops to protect the battery from deep discharge. In case of overheating, maximum power is reduced, then the motor stops beyond a threshold.

What to supply

The Navy 3.0 Evo is supplied without a throttle or battery. It requires an Evo throttle: Evo tiller, Evo remote throttle (with a steering wheel to be supplied), Evo side-mount throttle or Evo dual throttle. ePropulsion recommends its E-series batteries; a 48 V lithium or lead-acid battery (deep-cycle, AGM or gel, not a starter battery) is also suitable if it can deliver at least 62.5 A continuously. For one hour at full power, the manual specifies a minimum capacity of 3 000 Wh. With a third-party battery, type, voltage and capacity must be set in the throttle, and hydrogeneration is unavailable. A charger and communication cable are also required.
