Agave, the second Gunboat 80 focused on family cruising

Second unit of the seriesGunboat 80, named Agave and launched on May 14, 2024 in La Grande-Motte. Same platform as hull #1 (Highland Fling XVIII) — 24.65 m × 10.25 m, prepreg carbon autoclave with Nomex core, asymmetric L-shaped daggerboards, retractable T-shaped rudders — but configured for family cruising rather than racing.

Architecture and design

Naval architecture by VPLP Design. Exterior styling by Patrick Le Quément (former Renault design director) in collaboration with Christophe Chedal Anglay, who also designed the interior layout. The client's concept: translating the yard’s recent race technology into a cruising application, with hydraulic controls optimized for reduced crew operations.

Technical specifications

  • Length 24.65 m, beam 10.25 m
  • High-modulus prepreg carbon construction, autoclave-cured, Nomex honeycomb core
  • 31 m rotating mast, Lorima rigging
  • Asymmetric L-shaped daggerboards for lift, retractable T-shaped rudders (minimum draft 1.30 m)
  • Target speed above true wind from 6 knots (VPLP figures for the series), peaks over 30 knots in breeze
  • Construction completed over two years in La Grande-Motte

Builder

Built by Gunboat (Grand Large Yachting group), historic site in La Grande-Motte. Agave is the second hull delivered of the 80 series after Highland Fling XVIII.
