Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for demanding marine electrical systems, the Blue Sea Systems L-Series 9012 solenoid handles high loads with increased reliability and environmental protection. It is the high-capacity model in the L-Series, delivering 250A of continuous current, distinguishing it from the 7765 model (150A) in the same range. This capacity makes it suitable for applications requiring robust management of starter circuits, battery banks, or main distribution panels.
Performance and technical specifications
The 9012 solenoid provides 250A of continuous current when used with 1/0 AWG cable, up to 300A with 2/0 AWG cable, and up to 450A with two 2/0 AWG cables. Its inrush current rating is 1000A for 30 seconds with a 2/0 AWG cable, and its intermittent current (5 minutes) is 400A with a 2/0 AWG cable. It operates at a nominal voltage of 12V or 24V DC, with a control circuit ranging from 8.5V to 36V DC. The continuous operating current is 0.13A at 12V and 0.07A at 24V. The coil control circuit is designed to minimize heat and amp draw, and does not require external suppression.
Design and installation
The solenoid contacts are hermetically sealed, and the unit is IP67 rated, ensuring protection against dust and immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Its design is also ignition-protected (SAE J1171), making it safe for installation in gasoline engine compartments on boats. The unit now features serrated flange nuts for M8 terminals, replacing traditional nuts and split washers, providing a more secure and reliable cable termination. Control circuit connections are made via a 20 AWG tinned wire. The solenoid is also UL 508 listed and CE marked, attesting to its compliance with industrial and marine standards. It maintains the same installation footprint as the previous version, facilitating upgrades.
