Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy BatteryProtect 12/24V-100A is an essential protection device designed to preserve battery life and ensure power availability for critical loads. It automatically disconnects non-essential consumers before the battery is fully discharged, preventing irreversible damage or insufficient power to start the engine. This model is positioned as an intermediate solution in the BatteryProtect range, offering a maximum continuous current of 100A, higher than the BP-65 (65A) and suitable for medium-power installations, while being more compact than the BP-220 (220A).
Key Features and Technical Performance
This BatteryProtect features automatic voltage detection (12V or 24V), simplifying initial installation. Programming is easily done via a 7-segment LED display, allowing you to set disconnection and reconnection thresholds. A specific mode for Li-ion batteries is available, enabling direct control by a VE.Bus BMS for optimized discharge management. In terms of consumption, the device draws an ultra-low 1.5 mA in operation and only 0.6 mA in standby or low-voltage cut-off mode, which is crucial for Li-ion battery-powered systems. It includes overvoltage protection, disconnecting the load if the DC voltage exceeds 16V (for a 12V system) or 32V (for a 24V system) to protect sensitive equipment. Its design uses MOSFET switches instead of relays, ensuring spark-free operation and increased safety (ignition proof).
Integration and Advanced Specifications
The BatteryProtect 12/24V-100A offers intelligent alarm and disconnection management. A timed alarm output activates if the battery voltage drops below the disconnection threshold for more than 12 seconds, preventing false alarms caused by engine start-up. Load disconnection is also timed (90 seconds after the alarm), with reconnection after 30 seconds if the voltage recovers. Default thresholds are 10.5V or 21V for disconnection and 12V or 24V for reconnection. It supports a peak current of 600A for 30 seconds and operates within a voltage range of 6 to 35V. The electronics are rated IP67 (potting), ensuring protection against temporary immersion, while the connections are IP00. Its dimensions are 59 x 42 x 115 mm with a weight of 0.5 kg, featuring M8 connections. It is important to note that this device is unidirectional and not designed for reverse currents from charging sources, nor for direct connection of inverters or charger/inverters via their DC inputs, which must be controlled via their remote port. Unlike the Smart BatteryProtect version, programming for this model is done manually via the PROG pin to GND.
