Not to be confused: the GO! exec's SOS is a subscription-based assistance service. Coverage and Dependencies
This is the criterion that truly separates the two systems:
- **Iridium**: global coverage by design, including poles and high latitudes. This is its raison d'être — and why it remains the tool for extreme areas.

Power: The Underestimated Criterion
A GO! exec demands little from the vessel: it recharges like a portable device and runs on its battery during use.
A Starlink, on the other hand, consumes continuously as long as it is powered on — several tens of watts which, over 24 hours, genuinely impact a sailboat's power bank. Before embarking with a Starlink for a passage, the question is not 'where to fix it' but 'can my energy balance absorb it'. Plans, SIMs, and Activation
Without reprinting pricing grids that will be outdated in three months, here's the structure of the two worlds:
- **Iridium side**: access is via a SIM and credit — either prepaid (a volume of minutes/data with a validity period, to be activated before departure) or by subscription. If the budget forces a single choice, the decision is based on your relationship with risk and disconnection, not comfort: the emergency communication means takes precedence.
Offshore Racing: most regulations impose specific satellite communication means — your race regulations decide, not a comparison. The GO! exec fits this logic; verify the required equipment list before any purchase.
