The IMOCA with foils sailed by Jean-Pierre Dick, launched in 2015
StMichel-Virbac (FRA 06) is an IMOCA 60 designed byVPLP Design and Guillaume Verdier for Jean-Pierre Dick, launched onSeptember 12, 2015 after seven months of construction atMultiplast in Vannes (shipyard opened on February 23, 2015). It belongs to the first generation of IMOCAs equipped with retractable foils, built for the 2016–17 Vendée Globe.
Hull and architecture
Compared to other 2015-generation IMOCAs, the hull is narrower, with avery voluminous bow and very flat lines designed to maximize power. The cockpit is flattened to reduce windage. The retractable foils partially lift the hull while reaching to reduce drag.
