The Scanstrut DS-LP-21A-BLK low-profile IP68 cable gland is designed for marine installations requiring a watertight and discreet cable pass-through through a deck or bulkhead. Made from black anodized aluminum, it provides optimal corrosion resistance in saltwater environments while maintaining a low profile (6.5 mm height above deck) to avoid impeding movement. With an IP68 rating, it ensures perfect watertightness, even during temporary immersion.
Precise sealing system for cables 4 to 9 mm in diameter
This DS-LP-21A-BLK model is specifically designed for cables with a diameter between 4 and 9 mm. It comes with a set of four rubber bungs, allowing selection of the most suitable seal for your cable’s exact diameter. This design ensures perfect watertightness without requiring additional sealants or clamps. The required pass-through hole is 21 mm in diameter, with a tolerance for a 32 mm mounting hole (hole saw). Installation is secured using the three No.6 x 19 mm self-tapping screws provided for composite materials (fiberglass, wood) or M4 bolts (not included) for metal surfaces.
Position in the Scanstrut Low Profile range
The Scanstrut Low Profile range includes several sizes to cover all cable pass-through needs. The DS-LP-21A-BLK fits between the DS-LP-16 (for cables 2 to 8 mm, 16 mm hole) and the DS-LP-21B (same 21 mm hole diameter but for cables 9 to 14 mm). There is also the DS-LP-30 for thicker cables (up to 14 mm with a 30 mm hole). This DS-LP-21A model is therefore the ideal choice for medium-section cables (4 to 9 mm) commonly found on navigation light power cables, pumps, or electronic instruments such as GPS plotters (B&G, Garmin, Raymarine).
Installation and compatibility
Installation is simple and quick, requiring only a drill, a 32 mm hole saw, and a Pozidriv screwdriver. For soft materials (plywood), a 2.5 mm pilot hole is recommended. For hard materials (fiberglass, acrylic), use a 3 mm drill bit. The kit includes a gasket and three screws. For enhanced watertightness, applying marine-grade silicone (not included) to the gasket is advised. This cable gland is compatible with all types of hulls and decks, whether in wood, fiberglass, aluminum, or steel.
