HX40 - 6W Portable VHF - ULTRA COMPACT - Waterproof IPx7 - FM Reception

The Standard Horizon HX40 portable VHF radio is designed for marine communication with 6W power output. Its ultra-compact design and IPx7 waterproof rating make it suitable for various boating applications, providing essential features for safety and comfort on board.

Radio performance and channel monitoring

The HX40 offers adjustable RF output power of 6 W (5 W being the maximum required in some countries), 2.5 W and 1 W to adapt to communication needs. It operates on TX frequency ranges from 156.025 MHz to 161.600 MHz and RX from 156.050 MHz to 163.275 MHz, covering USA/International and weather (WX) channels. Frequency stability is maintained at ±3 ppm across an operating temperature range of -20°C to +60°C. For optimized monitoring, the HX40 integrates Dual Watch (dual watch) and Triple Watch (triple watch) functions, allowing simultaneous monitoring of the active channel, priority channel, and a secondary channel. It can also respond to weather alerts by listening to a dedicated weather channel or FM radio mode.

Features and design

In addition to VHF communication, the Standard Horizon HX40 includes FM radio reception, covering the frequency range from 65 MHz to 108 MHz with a 100 kHz frequency step. The unit features a keypad lock to prevent accidental operation and adjustable continuous or timed backlighting for the display/keypad, along with contrast adjustment. Its compact dimensions of 52 mm (W) x 95 mm (H) x 33 mm (D) (excluding buttons and antenna) and weight of 230 g (including lanyard, belt clip, and antenna) facilitate transport and handling. The HX40 operates on 7.4 Vdc with negative ground and is powered by an internal battery. Current consumption is 330 mA in receive mode (max AF), 100 mA in standby, and up to 1.6 A during transmission at 6W. This equipment complies with the essential requirements of European Directive 2014/53/EU (RED).
