FURUNO Excellence: Proven Navigation and Safety

FURUNO, a Japanese manufacturer founded in 1948, has established itself as a world leader in professional marine electronics. Renowned for its reliability and performance, particularly in radar and navigation systems, the brand is a preferred choice for the most demanding sailors. At Skysat, we understand the importance of having reliable systems, especially in offshore racing where performance and safety are paramount. That's why we offer and integrate FURUNO solutions, designed to withstand the most extreme conditions.

Radar systems

FURUNO radar systems are essential for navigation and safety, enabling target detection, collision avoidance, and safe navigation, even in low visibility.

  • FAR Series (magnetron): Traditional radars using magnetron technology. They offer good range and high transmission power, suitable for large vessels and professional applications requiring long-range detection.
  • DRS Series (Solid State): Solid-state radars using Doppler technology. They offer instant startup, low power consumption, and excellent detection of close targets, with a clear and precise image. They are particularly well-suited for pleasure boats and racing sailboats.
  • High-definition UHD radar : These radars offer superior image resolution, enabling highly accurate target identification. Integration with FURUNO navigation systems optimizes performance and radar information visualization.

Fish finders and fish detectors

FURUNO fishfinders are renowned for their accuracy and ability to detect fish and map the seabed, a major asset for fishing and navigational safety.

  • DFF1-UHD CHIRP: Sonar module using CHIRP (Compressed High-Intensity Radiated Pulse) technology for exceptional target discrimination and image clarity. Ideal for sport fishing and precise bottom mapping.
  • FCV Series: A range of color fishfinders offering a wide array of features, from fish detection to depth and temperature display. FCV models are suitable for different boat sizes and fishing styles.
  • BBDS1 Black Box: A "black box" sonar module designed for integration with FURUNO multifunction displays. It offers high sonar performance in a compact and discreet format.

Navigation and trackers

FURUNO navigation systems offer a complete solution for route planning and tracking, integrating high-performance map plotters, GPS and autopilots.

  • NavNet TZtouch: Integrated network navigation system based on multifunction touchscreens. It centralizes navigation, radar, sonar, and weather information on a single screen, offering an intuitive and customizable interface.
  • GP Series (GPS): High-precision GPS receivers offering reliable and accurate positioning, even in challenging conditions. FURUNO GPS receivers are designed for easy integration with other navigation systems.
  • NavPilot Pilots: High-performance and reliable autopilots designed to maintain a precise course, even in rough seas. They feature advanced functions such as "route" mode and "wind" mode.

System integration and compatibility

System integration is a key element of the overall performance of a marine electronic system. FURUNO emphasizes the compatibility of its products with NMEA 2000 standards and Ethernet networks, enabling seamless integration with other onboard equipment.

  • NMEA 2000: Compatibility with the NMEA 2000 standard for easy and fast data exchange between different devices (GPS, sounder, instruments, etc.).
  • NavNet Network: FURUNO proprietary network architecture enabling the sharing of radar, sonar and chart data between different NavNet screens.
  • AIS and VHF compatibility: Integration of AIS (Automatic Identification System) and VHF systems for better situational awareness and effective communication.

💡 Skysat's advice

The radar antenna's location is crucial for maximizing range and minimizing interference. On a racing sailboat, prioritize masthead installation, taking into account the boat's weight and stability. Configure the NavNet network with a static IP address for each device to avoid conflicts and ensure reliable communication, especially during racing conditions where responsiveness is essential.
