Raymarine: which equipment to choose for your boat?
The Raymarine range brings together the main components of a marine electronics installation: multifunction displays, instruments, autopilots, radars, fishfinders, VHF, AIS, sensors, and network components. This collection gathers the Raymarine equipment available at Skysat and organizes it by function to go directly to the relevant family.
The right starting point is not the brand alone, but the boat’s architecture: existing equipment, navigation program, type of helm, sensors, data network, and power supply. Two Raymarine devices are not automatically compatible just because they share the same logo or belong to a similar family.
Raymarine displays: Axiom or Element?
The Axiom family uses the LightHouse operating system and can serve as the center of a networked system: chartplotting, radar, fishfinder, instruments, video, or autopilot depending on the model and connected interfaces. The Axiom 2 Pro versions combine touchscreen and HybridTouch physical controls. The Element family prioritizes keyboard control and more direct use of chartplotting and fishfinder functions.
Before choosing a display, check the usable size at the helm station, the exact variant with or without integrated fishfinder, included chartplotting, available connectors, and the contents of the box. The name Axiom or Element alone is not enough to identify sonar functions or required accessories.
Evolution autopilot: think in terms of a complete system
A Raymarine Evolution autopilot is selected as a complete system: EV sensor, control head, control unit for the actuator based on the architecture, drive system, and network cabling. Sizing depends on the type of steering, the boat’s displacement or hydraulic ram volume, power supply voltage, and the existing actuator. The boat’s length alone is not sufficient to correctly select the system.
Raymarine radar: Quantum 2 or Cyclone?
The Quantum 2 is an 18-inch radome using semiconductor technology, CHIRP pulse compression, and Doppler processing to more easily distinguish moving targets. The Cyclone family uses an open semiconductor antenna for installations requiring greater range and target separation. Before selecting a Raymarine radar, verify screen compatibility, data link, mounting location, cable routing, and power supply. The radar complements AIS; it does not replace it.
Raymarine instruments, fishfinder, VHF/AIS, and network
- Instruments: Raymarine i70s and Alpha displays present navigation data, wind, speed, or depth provided by onboard sensors and network.
- Fishfinder: choose the complete setup: display or fishfinder module, connector, and transducer. Hull type, installation method, motorization, target depth, and sonar technology determine the suitable transducer.
- VHF and AIS: distinguish between a VHF with AIS reception, an AIS receiver alone, and an AIS transceiver. The antenna, GPS, MMSI, and any antenna splitter are part of the installation study.
- Network: RayNet is used for Ethernet links of compatible equipment; SeaTalkng forms the backbone for instruments, sensors, and NMEA 2000-compatible devices. Older SeaTalk networks require specific verification and sometimes conversion.
Raymarine refit: checks before ordering
- Record the exact reference and generation of each display, sensor, autopilot, radar, and transducer already onboard.
- Photograph the connectors and identify the network: SeaTalk, SeaTalkng, NMEA 2000, or RayNet.
- Check voltage, protections, power consumption, and required cable lengths.
- Verify display software versions and the exact contents of the pack or box.
You are preparing a refit or unsure between several references? Send Skysat the list of existing equipment, connector photos, and the boat’s program via the contact page. We can verify the architecture before ordering, without assuming compatibility based solely on the product line name.
