Detailed description
Detailed description
The McMurdo FastFind Return Link personal manual beacon is designed for marine safety, integrating advanced location technologies and an alert confirmation service. This compact and lightweight beacon ensures reliable emergency transmission thanks to its multi-GNSS capabilities and dedicated transmission frequencies.
Emergency location and transmission
The FastFind Return Link is equipped with a multi-constellation GNSS receiver, supporting GPS (L1) and GALILEO (E1) systems with 72 channels and a ceramic patch antenna, ensuring fast and precise position acquisition. When manually activated in three steps, the beacon transmits an emergency message on the 406.031 MHz frequency at 5 W power, relayed by the Cospas-Sarsat system to global emergency services. A homing signal on 121.5 MHz is also emitted at 50 mW power, aiding rescue teams in locating survivors.
A distinctive feature is the RLS (Return Link Service): a blue LED flashes every 50 seconds to confirm that the alert message has been received by emergency services. The beacon also features a high-brightness LED flash that emits an SOS signal in Morse code, with a capacity of 30 flash operations.
Durability and battery life
Designed for demanding environments, the FastFind Return Link beacon is waterproof with immersion up to 10 m for 5 minutes. It operates in a temperature range from -20 to +55 °C and can be stored from -30 to +70 °C. It weighs 164 g and measures 36 x 50 x 112 mm. The lithium-manganese battery offers a 5-year storage life and ensures an emission duration of over 24 hours at -20 °C. Battery replacement must be performed by an authorized service center. The beacon has a category 2 buoyancy rating, meaning it does not float without the optional float pouch.
Practical features
The FastFind Return Link includes self-diagnostic functions to test transmitters, battery, and light. The first emergency message is transmitted 50 seconds after activation, allowing quick cancellation in case of accidental activation. A neck lanyard is included for easy carrying. The use of this equipment may be subject to usage restrictions and/or licensing in several European countries, including Austria, Denmark, France, and Germany.
