Detailed description
Detailed description
The Simrad NAC-3 autopilot pack with RF25N includes the core electronics of a sailboat autopilot with rudder angle feedback. It comprises the NAC-3 computer, the Precision-9 compass, the RF25N rudder angle sensor and the wiring with the necessary connectors to create a NMEA 2000 backbone or connect the autopilot to an existing network.
For an external power unit
The NAC-3 operates on 12 or 24 V DC and controls hydraulic pumps or mechanical rams up to 750 W. The power unit and autopilot controller are not included: they must be selected based on the displacement, steering type and rudder geometry of the boat.
Rudder feedback and network included
The RF25N transmits the rudder position over the NMEA 2000 network. The Precision-9 provides heading and motion data required by the computer. The pack already includes the network components needed to create a backbone or connect to an existing network; there is no need to add a second starter kit automatically.
Protection and commissioning
The NAC-3 hardware includes a 30 A fuse. This protection does not replace the upstream cable protection device to be installed near the power source. Cable cross-sections, terminals and upstream protection must be sized according to the round-trip length, power unit current and allowable voltage drop. Commissioning on the dock and then at sea is required after installation.
