Nicolas Troussel

The expert in trajectory and structural innovation

Nicolas Troussel is among the most versatile offshore racing skippers, recognized for his exceptional tactical sense and ability to lead highly technical projects. A two-time winner of the Solitaire du Figaro, he built his reputation on perfect mastery of coastal navigation before moving offshore and into the IMOCA class. His approach is based on a demand for pure performance, often combined with bold architectural choices and rigorous management of onboard systems.

Profile & Technical Approach

Nicolas Troussel is characterized by a "system" approach to the vessel. His technical profile is that of a perfectionist capable of operating complex platforms where each component is optimized to reduce drag and maximize righting moment (RM). During the development of the IMOCA Corum L'Épargne, he supervised the integration of cutting-edge technologies to meet the extreme demands of the latest generation of foilers.

Following the completion of the Corum L'Épargne cycle, Nicolas Troussel remains active in the professional circuit. In 2024, he joined the crew of the Ultim Sodebo Ultim 3 alongside Thomas Coville for the Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, leveraging his experience in high-speed sailing.

The skipper is now focused on a new performance cycle with the goal of competing in the 2028 Vendée Globe. His current project centers on developing an ambitious technological platform that combines sporting competitiveness and reduced carbon footprint. He also plans to compete in the next major Figaro 3 events and participate in the 2025 Transat Café l'OR to validate his new technical directions.
