Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for accurate marine data acquisition, the AIRMAR UST850 sensor is an ultrasonic solution for measuring water speed and temperature. This through-hull sensor eliminates the need for moving parts like paddlewheels, reducing maintenance and increasing reliability. It is suitable for sailboats, powerboats, and cruising vessels, operating in both freshwater and saltwater.
Advanced Ultrasonic Technology
The AIRMAR UST850 uses 4.5 MHz ultrasonic technology to detect water speed and temperature. It offers a speed range of 0.1 to 50 knots (0.1 to 57 MPH) and a temperature accuracy of ±0.5°C. Data updates up to 10 times per second, with adaptive accuracy that adjusts to boat speed, water depth, and clarity. Airmar’s Smart™ Sensor technology integrates signal processing directly into the housing for ready-to-use data.
Installation and Connectivity
The UST850 sensor requires a 51 mm diameter hole. It is designed for through-hull mounting and fits into existing Airmar P17 or B17 housings. The sensor comes with a 6-meter NMEA 2000 cable for direct network connectivity. The sensor also supports NMEA 0183 output. It operates on 9 to 16 Volts DC and draws an average of 125 mA at 12 Volts DC, with a range of 80 to 200 mA. Its retractable plastic insert with a water valve simplifies maintenance and storage. The sensor weighs approximately 1.4 kg and operates in a temperature range of 14°F to 104°F (-10°C to 40°C).
