Detailed description
The B&G T2 24V hydraulic autopilot ram is a fully integrated power unit, combining cylinder, pump, motor, clutch, and reservoir in a sealed, pre-filled assembly. Designed for sailboats with reverse-drive mechanical steering systems, its one-piece design simplifies installation by eliminating the need for external hoses and reservoirs. Manufactured in the UK, this ram is intended for below-deck installations only.
Performance and positioning
This actuator delivers a maximum intermittent thrust of 700 kg and a rudder torque of 149 kg/m. Within the B&G actuator range, the T2 model stands out from the T1 due to its superior speed. It completes a full port-to-starboard stroke (255 mm) in 9 seconds, compared to 13 seconds for the T1, while delivering the same maximum thrust. This performance makes it ideal for responsive autopilot systems. It is compatible with B&G autopilot computers such as the NAC-3 and the H5000.

Design and safety
The hydraulic cylinder incorporates internal pressure relief valves calibrated to 62 bar (equivalent to 730 kg) to protect the system from shocks in the event of grounding or rudder impact. In case of main rudder failure, it allows the autopilot's "Power Steer" mode to be used for emergency control. A quick-release system with an "R-Clip" pin on the rudder shaft allows the cylinder to be manually disengaged from the rudder quadrant. The 12-watt clutch connects via a DIN 43650 plug. The recommended hydraulic fluid is a mineral oil of type ISO VG10 to VG40.
