Designed for demanding sailors and racing crews, the B&G WS720 vertical wind sensor pack delivers precise measurements and optimized aerodynamics. It provides essential angular wind data and speed for performance sailing, enabling improved race decisions and autopilot performance.
Design and aerodynamic performance
The WS720 features a 1.1m high-modulus carbon spar (available from 0.8m to 1.8m), which elevates the sensor into undisturbed airflow, minimizing the impact of the sailplan. This carbon fiber spar ensures maximum rigidity, even in strong winds. The sensor’s aerodynamic design, incorporating a new one-piece vane, results from over 200,000 hours of design and wind tunnel testing, guaranteeing high stability and accuracy. The supplied mast mount, model BGH030008, is made of black anodized HS 30 aluminum and weighs 160 g.
Integration and installation
The WS720 pack ships with a 35m mast cable and a junction box, enabling direct connection at the mast base. Mast cables are also available in lengths from 25m to 80m. This sensor is compatible with NMEA 0183 systems, transmitting "MWV,R" sentences at 10Hz and 38.4k. It can connect to NMEA 2000® systems via the optional WS310 interface. The WS720 is also compatible with B&G H5000 and WTP3 systems. Installation is straightforward, connecting to instrumentation systems via a single mast cable. The WS700 series, which includes the WS720, uses the same physical mounting as previous B&G VHMU models, offering a direct upgrade path.
