Detailed description
Designed for marine navigation systems, the FURUNO FI-5001L wind transducer is a long-arm analog wind sensor that measures wind direction and speed. It features a 720mm arm, providing unobstructed visibility and optimal positioning relative to the mast, which benefits performance sailboats and powerboats.
Measurement Precision and Dynamics
This sensor delivers precise data with wind angle accuracy better than ±10° and wind speed accuracy better than ±5% at 20 knots. Its wind module range spans from 0.9 to 90 knots. Operating on a nominal 12V DC supply, the FI-5001L draws less than 40 mA and weighs 0.4 kg. It is a mechanical instrument without an integrated barometer.
Connectivity and System Compatibility
The FURUNO FI-5001L wind transducer is an analog wind sensor. To connect to an NMEA 2000 bus (CAN bus) and integrate with displays such as the FI-70, an analog-to-CAN bus/NMEA 2000 data converter, such as the IF-NMEAFI, is required. The sensor is compatible with Furuno instrument displays in the FI50 and FI70 series, including the FI501 and FI502 wind displays, as well as any other NMEA 2000-compatible display. When paired with other Furuno sensors, it can provide comprehensive wind information, including apparent wind and VMG (Velocity Made Good).
Installation and Included Items
The FI-5001L is designed for mast installation with a dedicated mount attachment. The sensor does not include a standard cable in its packaging; 30 or 50-meter cable kits, including a junction box, are available separately.
