The FURUNO MODEL 1815 is a color radar system designed for recreational boats and small fishing vessels. This standalone system includes an 8.4-inch color LCD display and a compact 4 kW radome antenna, offering advanced features for target detection and tracking.

Radar display and performance

The RDP-157 display features an 8.4-inch color LCD screen with a VGA resolution of 640 (V) x 480 (H) pixels. Brightness is adjustable in 16 levels, from 0.27 to 600 cd/m², ensuring visibility in varying lighting conditions. The display unit is waterproof to IP56 standards, making it suitable for exposed installations such as on a flybridge. Power consumption is 12-24 VDC, with a maximum power draw of 38 W during transmission.

The RSB-127-120 antenna unit is a compact 49 cm (19-inch) radome with a 4 kW output and a maximum range of 36 nautical miles. Its beam has a horizontal width of 5.2° and vertical width of 25°, with a rotation speed of 24 rpm. The antenna is waterproof to IPX6 standards and weighs 6.5 kg. The transceiver module, integrated into the antenna, operates at a frequency of 9410 ± 30 MHz. Minimum range is 25 m, with a range resolution of 25 m and an accuracy of 1% of the range used or 0.01 NM. Angular resolution is 5.2° and accuracy is ±1°.

Advanced safety and navigation features

The FURUNO MODEL 1815 radar integrates automatic gain adjustment, sea clutter and rain clutter suppression functions, ensuring a clear radar image. The Fast Target Tracking™ (TT) function enables manual or automatic acquisition and tracking of up to 10 targets, providing speed and heading vectors within seconds. The True Trail mode displays moving objects with a gradual trail, facilitating quick assessment of target direction and movement. The True View mode maintains target visibility even during vessel turns.

For enhanced safety, the system can display up to 100 AIS targets when connected to a compatible FURUNO FA-30/50 AIS unit. Multi-station configuration is possible, allowing up to three MODEL 1815 (RDP-157) displays to be connected to a single antenna via an Ethernet hub. The "Off Center" mode shifts the vessel’s position on the screen to focus on specific areas, and the "Zoom" mode enlarges a selected target up to 2x. The included ball-joint mount allows adjustment of the display angle for optimal viewing comfort.
