The choice depends on the installation location:

If you install the stereo system in a dry location, place the mounting gasket (included in the stereo system box) at the rear of the stereo system. If you install the stereo system in a location exposed to water, apply marine-grade silicone sealant around the mounting surface around the cutout. Warning: Do not install the mounting gasket if you are applying sealant to the mounting surface, as this could reduce water resistance.

You must use the four M4 crosshead screws provided in this kit to secure the stereo to the mounting plates. The screws included in the kit are specifically designed for use with the mounting plates and must be used instead of any screws that may have been supplied with the stereo itself.

If you are replacing an older stereo system, you must completely fill the old screw holes with marine-grade sealant. Failure to do so could allow water to seep behind the dashboard.

The trim caps simply snap onto the sides of the stereo once it is installed. If you are replacing a previous stereo, you must use the trim caps included in this kit, as those supplied with the Apollo RA770 stereo are smaller and would not visually cover the old screw holes.
