Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin Airmar B150M through-hull transducer is specifically designed for fiberglass or wooden hulls. This 300W CHIRP model offers a mid-frequency coverage range from 95 kHz to 155 kHz with a 60 kHz bandwidth. It features a 12° tilted element to compensate for hull deadrise angles between 8° and 15°, ensuring the sonar beam is directed straight down. This design optimizes echo returns and eliminates the need for a fairing block, reducing hull protrusion to just 5 mm (0.19").
CHIRP Performance and Applications
With CHIRP technology, the B150M delivers high-resolution sonar images and improved target separation compared to fixed-frequency transducers. Its 300W power enables maximum depths of 183 meters (600 feet) under optimal conditions, making it suitable for coastal fishing, inland waters, and fish detection near structures. The 26° to 17° beam angle enhances target detection. This model is recommended for boats up to 8 meters (25 feet) and is compatible with all propulsion types.
Integration and Positioning in the Airmar Range
The B150M is positioned as a versatile option in Airmar’s range of CHIRP tilted-element transducers, alongside the B75 (available in low, mid, and high frequencies) and SS75 models. While the B75 and SS75 offer higher power options (600W or 1kW), the 300W B150M stands out for delivering detailed CHIRP performance at mid-depths, where it excels. It is also available as a transom-mount version under the reference TM150M. The B150M includes rapid-response depth and water temperature sensing and connects via an 8-pin connector, typical of Garmin systems. Installation requires a 51 mm (2-inch) hole and is optimized for displacement, planing, or vee-bottom hulls, provided the material is fiberglass or wood.
