Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GA™ 38 antenna is an external GPS and GLONASS positioning solution designed to enhance navigation accuracy on compatible marine systems. It integrates seamlessly with a range of Garmin devices, including chartplotters, VHF radios, and AIS systems, providing reliable and fast location data. Unlike built-in antennas often limited by the main device’s location, the GA™ 38 allows optimized installation for maximum signal reception.
Integration and Compatibility
This antenna uses a standard BNC connector to connect to the dedicated "ANTENNA" or "EXT GPS" ports on compatible Garmin chartplotters. Its broad compatibility makes it an essential accessory for navigators looking to strengthen their existing GPS system or add positioning capability to devices lacking it or benefiting from improved signal reception. It serves as an external alternative to internal GPS modules, offering superior installation flexibility to ensure clear sky visibility.
Versatile Mounting Options
The Garmin GA™ 38 offers multiple mounting options to suit various vessel configurations. It can be surface-mounted using the included surface-mount bracket, or installed on a standard 1-inch threaded mast (not included) via the mast-mount adapter. For discreet installations or when aesthetics are critical, a below-deck mounting kit is also available (supplied with white antenna models only), allowing the antenna to operate effectively through non-metallic fiberglass surfaces. Its compact design (91.6 × 49.5 mm) and lightweight (201 g) facilitate integration.
Robust Design for Marine Environments
Constructed from a high-strength, fully waterproof plastic alloy, the Garmin GA™ 38 is designed to withstand the harshest marine conditions. Its IEC 60529 IPX7 waterproof rating ensures protection against temporary immersion, guaranteeing reliable performance even in heavy spray or accidental submersion. It operates within a temperature range of -30° to 80°C (white model) and maintains a 114 mm safety distance from compasses, minimizing interference with other navigation equipment.
