Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for demanding marine navigation, the Garmin GMR Fantom™ 256 open-array solid-state radar delivers 250 W transmission power. It is Garmin’s most powerful solid-state radar for the recreational market, enhancing safety and situational awareness at sea.
Advanced performance and detection
With detection range from 6 meters to 96 nautical miles, the GMR Fantom™ 256 provides full environmental monitoring. Its 1.25° horizontal and 23° vertical beamwidth optimizes target detection. The radar offers rotation speeds of 24 and 48 rpm, with high-speed mode available in single range up to 12 NM with MotionScope disabled.
Integrated technologies for optimized navigation
The GMR Fantom™ 256 integrates MotionScope™ technology, which uses Doppler effect to identify moving targets via color coding, facilitating collision avoidance, bird finding and weather tracking. Pulse compression technology delivers high-resolution imaging and improved target identification. The MARPA function enables automatic acquisition and tracking of up to 30 moving targets. Scan-to-Scan Averaging and Dynamic Sea Filter reduce sea clutter for a clearer image. Features such as Auto Bird Gain, Echo Trails, Radar Overlay, and Guard Zone further enhance this system for navigation and fishing assistance.
Robust design and extended compatibility
This radar operates on 10–32 V DC, with typical power consumption of 150 W and up to 260 W in high winds (80 knots). It is IPX6 waterproof rated and supports a maximum wind load of 80 knots. Overall dimensions are 40.3 cm in height and 190.9 cm in diameter. The GMR Fantom™ 256 is compatible with Garmin multifunction chartplotters from GPSMAP series 7x2, 9x2, 10x2, 12x2, 7400, 7600, 8000, 8200, 8400, and 8600. It supports Dual Range and Dual Radar functions and features instant-on capability thanks to its solid-state design.
