Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GNX 120 7-inch marine display is a monochrome instrument designed for demanding sailboats, whether for regattas or long-distance cruising. It features a "glass mast" aesthetic in flush-mount installation, ensuring seamless integration at the helm or mast. Readability is optimized with a glass-bonded monochrome LCD screen, eliminating condensation and fogging even in the harshest marine conditions. This display shows figures up to 51 mm (2 inches) tall, among the largest in its class, ensuring instant reading of essential data from a distance. For night navigation, customizable 7-color backlighting allows precise adaptation of the display to preserve crew night vision.
Advanced performance and connectivity
The GNX 120 stands out for its energy efficiency, with a maximum power consumption of 1.3 W, and is directly powered by the NMEA 2000 backbone (LEN 3). This is critical for sailboats concerned with power autonomy. Its physical dimensions are 249 x 153 x 19 mm, with a display size of 207 x 116 mm, and a weight of 820 g. The unit is made of polycarbonate plastic, offers a magnetic safety distance of 0 mm, and has an IPX7 waterproof rating per IEC 60529. It operates in a temperature range of -15 to 70°C and accepts an NMEA 2000 input voltage of 9 to 16 Vdc.
System integration and available data
Connected via plug-and-play NMEA 2000, the GNX 120 display can output over 50 navigation parameters, including wind data (apparent/true wind angle and speed, ground wind direction), speed (ground speed, surface speed, VMG), depth, heading (heading, ground track), position (GPS, GNSS data), temperature (air, water), and pressure. It supports numerous NMEA 2000 PGNs, including 126992 (system time), 127250 (vessel heading), 128259 (water-referenced speed), 128267 (water depth), and 130306 (wind data). While it does not directly receive NMEA 0183 data, it can display it via a GNX 20 or GNX 21 device connected to the same NMEA 2000 network, or integrate Nexus instrument data via a GND 10 gateway (sold separately). An optional GNX Keypad allows remote display management. Positioned as a dedicated instrument repeater, the GNX 120 offers an alternative to more complex multifunction displays by focusing on clarity and availability of critical data, similar to B&G Triton² or Raymarine i70s displays, but within the Garmin ecosystem.
