Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GT30-TH transducer is an in-hull stainless steel solution designed to provide advanced sonar imaging capabilities for demanding boaters. Integrating ClearVü™ and SideVü™ technologies, it operates on 455/800 kHz frequencies with 500W power, enabling detailed and precise visualization of underwater structure and fish. This transducer is specifically suited for hulls with inclines under 5°, ensuring optimal performance without requiring a tilt compensating block. For hulls with an incline greater than 5°, using a tilt compensating block is recommended to maintain the sonar beam perpendicular to the waterline.
Performance and technical integration
The GT30-TH stands out from transom-mount transducers with its permanent through-hull installation, delivering excellent signal quality even at high speeds and greater depths, without turbulence or dropout issues. It also includes a temperature sensor, enriching the data available to the chartplotter. Compatible with Garmin chartplotters via a 12-pin connection, it requires a software update on the chartplotter for seamless integration and operation. This transducer is ideal for powerboats and sailboats, offering a robust alternative to transom-mount models like the GT20-TM or GT22-TM, which are more prone to external damage and turbulence interference at high speeds. For more sophisticated imaging needs, Garmin offers LVS-TH transducers with LiveScope™ or PS51 multibeam, positioning the GT30-TH as a high-performance and durable option for side and down imaging.
Installation and durability
The stainless steel in-hull design of the Garmin GT30-TH ensures increased durability in the marine environment. While installation requires precise hull drilling for the main through-hull fitting and included anti-rotation bolts, it is detailed for various hull types (fiberglass with or without core, metal). Anti-rotation bolt installation is critical to prevent device rotation during navigation. Strategic positioning is essential, away from propellers, chines, keels, and any source of turbulence or electromagnetic interference, to maximize SideVü signal clarity. Optimal performance is achieved in non-turbulent water, and the transducer must be mounted parallel to the boat’s fore-aft axis. Marine-grade materials and mounting method ensure long-term reliability even under intensive use conditions.
