Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin NMEA 2000 starter kit, part number 010-12935-00, is designed to set up a basic NMEA 2000 network on your vessel. It enables standardized and bidirectional communication between marine sensors and display devices, with a data rate of up to 250 Kb/sec. This standard, successor to NMEA 0183, simplifies the integration of various electronic equipment for a consistent navigation experience.
Garmin NMEA 2000 network components
Garmin uses NMEA 2000 micro-connectors for its devices, sensors, and T-connectors, ensuring compatibility with the NMEA 2000 ecosystem. The kit includes all necessary components for a first installation: a 2-meter drop cable to connect a device, a 6-meter backbone cable to extend the main network, a 2-meter power cable with a 3 A fuse to power the network, two T-connectors for connecting devices to the backbone, as well as a male and female terminator connector, essential for maintaining signal integrity at the network ends.
Integration and compatibility
This kit is compatible with a range of Garmin devices, including the ECHOMAP and GPSMAP series, as well as other NMEA 2000-certified marine instruments. It provides the foundation for connecting sensors, instruments, engine data, and navigation data. Unlike more complex installations requiring longer backbone cables (up to 100 m) or multi-powered configurations with isolators, this kit targets a simple and direct implementation for an initial small to medium-sized network. For larger or specific installations, additional components such as 10 m, 30 m cables, or angled connectors may be required, but this kit offers a functional starting point.
