Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for immersive sound in marine environments, the JL Audio M6-8TIB-Q-GwSw-8 marine subwoofer with an 8-inch (200 mm) driver is an acoustic solution dedicated to low-frequency reproduction. It incorporates specific technologies to deliver audio performance in nautical conditions.
Acoustic design and marine robustness
This subwoofer, with an RMS power of 250 W and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, is optimized for infinite baffle operation. This design allows the use of a large volume of air behind the enclosure, eliminating the need for a dedicated box for deep bass. Its efficiency is 83.2 dB (1 W/1 m) and its one-way linear excursion (Xmax) reaches 10 mm. For installations requiring an enclosure, specifications for sealed (net volume of 56.66 L) or vented (net volume of 42.5 L) enclosures are available.
The M6-8TIB-Q-GwSw-8’s design is suited to marine environments. The front of the enclosure has an IPX5 rating per IEC 60529, protecting it against low-pressure water jets. Materials used, such as a polypropylene cone filled with mica and UV inhibitors, a synthetic rubber surround, and a corrosion-resistant polymer basket, contribute to its durability. However, the rear of the enclosure and its connections are not waterproof and must be protected from moisture.
Installation and integration
Installing the subwoofer requires careful attention to the mounting location, which must protect the rear of the enclosure from moisture and provide sufficient clearance for the 96.5 mm mounting depth. The safe distance for compasses is 235 cm. It is recommended to use oxygen-free copper (OFC) speaker cable of 16 AWG (1.3 to 1.5 mm²) for distances up to 8.5 m (for an 8-ohm load) to ensure optimal performance and avoid signal loss. Mounting is done using screws and mounting brackets, with a torque of 1.69 N·m (1.25 lbf·ft) to prevent damage to the unit.
