Detailed description
Detailed description
The Simrad AP48 Autopilot Controller is a dedicated control unit for Simrad Continuum autopilot systems. It combines an intuitive interface with an extended keypad, providing precise and responsive control for navigation. Designed with a 4.1-inch display, it features a modern "glass helm" design.
Interface and Precise Control
The AP48 controller integrates an intuitive user interface, similar to the AP44 model but with an extended keypad. It features a large aluminum rotary dial for precise heading adjustments. Dedicated buttons allow instant heading changes of 1° and 10° port or starboard. The unit also includes Standby/AUTO, Mode, Power, and Menu buttons for simplified navigation through options.
Display Technology and Visibility
The 4.1-inch TFT-LCD color display offers a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Its transflective technology ensures optimal daytime visibility and reduces power consumption. The display is optically bonded, eliminating internal condensation and fogging. It provides viewing angles of 80° (up/down, left/right) and a brightness of over 600 nits. The color scheme is adaptable, with white or black schemes for day mode, and red, green, blue, or white for night mode.
Advanced Autopilot Features
The AP48 offers full access to Simrad Continuum’s advanced autopilot functions. It includes automated turning patterns for efficient hands-free maneuvers, useful for fishing or tacking. The "No Drift Steering" function automatically maintains heading against wind and current without requiring waypoints. When paired with a compatible fishfinder module, the controller can follow depth contours to maintain a constant depth.
Connectivity and Technical Specifications
This controller is NMEA 2000® certified with a Micro-C port (5 LEN) and supports NMEA 2000 compass sensors. It operates on a 12 V DC power supply (10.8 - 15.6 V DC), with a typical power consumption of 2.3 W and a maximum of 3 W. The unit weighs 0.51 kg and has dimensions of 177 x 115 x 56 mm. Its low-profile design allows for a flush mount with an 8 mm depth (excluding the rotary dial). It features IPx7 waterproofing and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +65°C.
