Detailed description
Detailed description
The Simrad HALO 3 ft radar antenna is a key component for HALO pulse-compression radar systems. Designed for recreational boating and light commercial use, this open-array antenna integrates X-Band solid-state radar technology, providing short- and long-range detection with advanced features for improved situational awareness at sea.
Radar Technology and Performance
The HALO-3 system, of which this antenna is part, uses pulse-compression technology, eliminating the need for a high-power magnetron. This approach allows for minimal warm-up time (16–25 seconds from power-on, instant-on from standby), significantly reduced power consumption, and lower electromagnetic emissions. The 3 ft antenna offers a maximum range of 48 nautical miles and a minimum range of 10 meters. It operates at an output power of 25W with a rotation speed of 24 to 48 rpm. Compatibility is ensured with Simrad NSS evo2 and NSO evo2 multifunction displays.
Advanced Navigation Features
The Simrad HALO 3 ft antenna supports features such as InstantOn™ for immediate availability and Beam Sharpening, which improves target separation, delivering resolution equivalent to a 4 ft antenna. The radar supports dual-range operation, allowing simultaneous monitoring of two distinct zones. Dedicated signal processing modes (Harbor, Offshore, Weather, Bird) optimize settings for various conditions. Automatic MARPA target tracking can manage up to 10 targets (20 in dual-range mode), requiring a heading sensor and GPS.
Design and Integration
With an average power consumption of 40W (at zero wind speed) and 6.5W in standby, this antenna is suited for 12/24V DC systems. It is rated IPX6 for water resistance and operates in temperatures ranging from -25°C to +55°C. The horizontal beam width is 2.4° (with Beam Sharpening active, it can reach 1.6°), and the vertical beam width is 25° +/-20%. The data interface is Ethernet 10/100 Base-T. The antenna alone weighs 5.5 kg.
