Designed for the demands of modern sailing, the Simrad HALO 500X radar pedestal (000-15742-001) is a cutting-edge solution for target detection and situational awareness at sea. This unit integrates a 130 W solid-state pulse-compression radar technology, providing high resolution and detection of close-range targets down to 6 metres, while delivering long-range performance comparable to HALO 3000 systems, reaching up to 96 nautical miles.
Advanced Radar Technology
The HALO 500X uses solid-state pulse-compression technology, eliminating the need for a magnetron and reducing maintenance requirements, ensuring increased reliability and extended service life. The Beam Sharpening feature enhances target separation, producing a clearer radar image. The system supports Dual Range operation, allowing simultaneous monitoring of two different ranges for enhanced situational awareness. Antenna rotation speed is variable from 16 to 48 RPM, with a high-speed mode providing rapid updates up to 48 RPM, even in 80-knot winds. The InstantOn™ function ensures immediate availability from standby mode, a critical feature for collision avoidance.
Intelligent Target Detection and Tracking
This radar pedestal integrates advanced target tracking capabilities, including MARPA (Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) to track up to 10 targets (20 in dual-range mode) and AutoTrack™ for automated detection, tracking, and prioritization of up to 50 targets, with instant alerts for potential hazards. The VelocityTrack™ Doppler technology instantly identifies and analyses the relative movement of radar targets, highlighting collision threats. Predefined user modes such as Port, Offshore, Weather, and Bird Detection automatically optimize radar parameters for specific conditions, enabling detection of diving birds within a six-nautical-mile radius.
Integration and Robustness
The HALO 500X pedestal is designed to be compatible with 3-, 4-, or 6-foot open-array antennas and fully integrates with existing Simrad Pro marine systems via its RI-50 interface module (not included), which provides Ethernet and NMEA2000 connectivity. The pedestal and antenna assembly is rated IPX6 for water resistance, and the RI-50 module is rated IPX5. With a full start-up time of 30 to 40 seconds from shutdown, low electromagnetic emissions, and silent operation thanks to its brushless motor, this system is suited for demanding marine environments. Its construction features enhanced corrosion resistance.
