Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for vessels where installing a traditional tunnel thruster is complex, the Sleipner EX95S 24V external thruster provides a solution for boats measuring 12 to 15 meters (35-48 feet). This system suits hulls of various shapes and materials (steel, aluminum, wood, GRP), as well as low drafts or limited interior space.
Performance and hydrodynamic design
The EX95S thruster delivers a nominal thrust of 67 kg, with an equivalent/performance thrust of 95 kg. Powered by 24V, it has a power output of 3kW (4 HP) and a nominal current draw of 175A. Its design incorporates a low-drag hydrofoil and a hydrodynamic profile that reduces water resistance. The electric motor is optimized for performance and benefits from efficient cooling due to its submerged position, allowing extended operating durations, up to 5 minutes continuously. It is equipped with a single 3-blade vectoring propeller.
Robust construction and integrated safety
The construction of the Sleipner EX95S is based on a specially coated aluminum housing and a hollow steel shaft with cable passage. Neoprene and rubber fittings ensure a watertight connection and suspension. The system integrates safety features such as Intelligent Power Control (IPC i-Box), which minimizes mechanical wear by regulating delays between direction changes and monitors solenoid performance. In the event of a solenoid lockup, the thruster automatically stops. Overheat protection also shuts down the system before any potential damage occurs. The drive lubrication is factory-sealed for life, with a ceramic/graphite mechanical seal on the propeller shaft to prevent water intrusion.
Installation and system integration
Installation of the EX95S is simplified by its external design, requiring only three small watertight holes and avoiding major lamination work, making it suitable for retrofitting. It uses analog signaling cables with color-coded Plug & Play connectors. Its mounting flexibility, particularly further forward at the bow, allows for up to 40% greater efficiency compared to conventional tunnel thrusters, offering the ability to maneuver larger boats with less energy. The thruster is compatible with other Sleipner thruster systems, and a remote control is available as an accessory for remote operation.
