Detailed description
The SR80/185T 12V retractable thruster from Sleipner is designed for vessels measuring 10 to 15 meters (35 to 48 feet), delivering a thrust of 96 kg at 12V (80 kg at 10.5V). This dual-propeller propulsion system, rated at 4.4 kW (6 Hp) at 10.5V, operates on 12V DC and features an 185 mm diameter tunnel.
Retraction mechanism and performance
This thruster deploys vertically from the hull and retracts flush to minimize drag while sailing. The retraction mechanism is engineered for rapid activation and retraction, completing the process in approximately 5 seconds, while preventing jams. It can be installed both at the bow and stern of the vessel. The unit weighs 31 kg.
Integrated technologies for safety and control
The SR80/185T integrates several Sleipner technologies to optimize its operation. The S-Link™ control system, based on CAN, provides plug-and-play wiring, waterproof connectors, and status feedback to the control panel. The Q-Prop™ technology uses five-blade skewed propellers to reduce noise by 20 to 40% in real-world conditions and up to 75% in controlled tests, while maintaining or improving thrust performance.
The Intelligent Power Control (IPC) minimizes mechanical wear by reducing delays between direction changes and monitors solenoids to prevent jams, automatically stopping the thruster if a solenoid seizes. Overheat protection shuts down the system if internal temperatures rise too high. The stern gland lubrication system is sealed for life with a durable mechanical seal, and galvanic isolation electrically separates the immersed motor components to prevent corrosion. A flexible coupling protects the propeller shaft by compensating for misalignments. Additional safety features include a two-button activation on control panels to prevent accidental starts, a pressure sensor that retracts the thruster if boat speed is too high, and a lock when the thruster is partially or fully retracted.
