Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for vessels from 12 to 17 meters (35 to 55 feet), the Sleipner SXP100/185T-12V stern thruster is an external maneuvering system delivering 100 kg of thrust at 10.5V and 116 kg at 12V. Operating on 12V, it includes a PPC800 speed controller (now replaced by the PPC820) for proportional thrust control. This system uses a 185 mm tunnel diameter and features a twin propeller, delivering 6 kW (8.05 HP) of power. A 500A fuse and a battery with at least 750 CCA (DIN) are recommended for optimal operation. Its weight is 57 kg.
Control and performance technologies
This thruster integrates several Sleipner technologies to enhance safety and performance. Intelligent Power Control (IPC) minimizes the delay between thrust direction changes, reduces mechanical wear, and monitors solenoids, automatically stopping the thruster in case of blockage. The Q-PROP™ technology uses five-blade skewed propellers, reducing noise by 20 to 40% in real-world conditions and up to 75% in controlled tests without compromising performance. The overheat protection system detects high internal temperatures and, for PRO™ models like this one, can reduce power to maintain safe operating temperatures, allowing extended usage durations.
Installation and durability
The Sleipner SXP100/185T-12V offers notable installation flexibility. Galvanic isolation ensures all underwater components are electrically isolated from the boat’s electrical system, preventing stray currents and corrosion. The sealed gearbox lubrication is factory-filled for extended life, complemented by a water-resistant mechanical seal. A flexible coupling protects the propeller shaft by compensating for minor misalignments. The S-Link™ control system simplifies wiring with its "Plug & Play" design.
Advanced features and safety
Safety features include two-button activation to prevent accidental starts, automatic deactivation after use, and protection against prolonged operation (PRO™ models can reduce power for extended usage durations rather than stopping abruptly in case of overheating, unlike on/off models which have a time limit). With compatible PJC control panels, the "Hold" function allows holding the boat alongside the dock, with adjustable thrust and individual synchronization for bow and stern thrusters, simplifying single-handed docking maneuvers.
