Designed for vessels from 12 to 17 meters (35 to 55 feet), the Sleipner SX100/185T 24V stern thruster is a robust and efficient external maneuvering system. Pre-assembled in a GRP casing, it is intended for installation on the transom, requiring only minimal cable penetrations for power and control wiring. This stern thruster provides maneuvering assistance for boats equipped with inboard engines or twin sterndrives, where optional fairings can optimize water flow.
Performance and technical design
The SX100/185T 24V thruster operates on 24V DC, delivering 100 kg of thrust at 21V DC and up to 116 kg at 24V DC. Its output power is 6.3 kW (8.4 hp) at 21V, reaching 7.8 kW (10.5 hp) at 24V. The system integrates Q-PROP™ twin propellers, which reduce noise by 20 to 40% in real-world use and up to 75% in controlled tests, while maintaining or improving thrust performance. The tunnel diameter is 185 mm.
Advanced features and safety
This thruster incorporates several features to optimize safety and durability. The Intelligent Power Control (IPC) system minimizes delay between direction changes and monitors solenoid performance, automatically stopping the thruster in case of blockage. Overheat protection shuts down the system before any potential damage occurs. The sterndrive lubrication is sealed for life with ceramic and carbon mechanical seals, pre-filled with special oil, to prevent water intrusion. Immersed components are galvanically isolated from the boat’s electrical system, preventing corrosion. The Sleipner SX100/185T 24V is watertight and ignition-protected (compliant with ISO 8846), allowing safe installation on gasoline-powered boats.
Integration and maintenance
Weighing approximately 37 kg, the thruster requires a minimum battery capacity of 760 CCA SAE for 24V systems and a recommended fuse of 325 Amps (SMANL325). Its external design with the motor above water reduces noise by about 80% and improves cooling, enabling longer duty cycles up to 3 minutes continuously at 200°C. Maintenance is simplified; the O-ring can be replaced when the boat is out of the water.
