Detailed description
Detailed description
The Victron Energy Color Control GX is a centralized control panel designed for comprehensive monitoring and control of marine and off-grid energy systems. It provides intuitive management of all connected Victron devices, including inverters, Multi/Quattro units, MPPT solar charge controllers, and BMV battery monitors. This model serves as a proven predecessor to the Cerbo GX, offering a local interface with an integrated display and remote management capabilities via the VRM portal. It remains a reliable solution for installations requiring detailed supervision and direct interaction, distinguishing itself from screenless gateways through its visual console. The CCGX centralizes data to provide an instant overview of system status, from battery charge to solar production and energy consumption.
Advanced monitoring and control
The Color Control GX offers local monitoring and control directly from its 4.3-inch color screen. It also enables complete remote management via Victron Energy’s VRM online portal, accessible from any Internet-connected device. This feature, called Remote Console, replicates the local interface for full control. For installations without a permanent Internet connection, the CCGX stores data internally for 48 hours, with the option to extend this capacity using a micro-SD card or USB drive. This data can then be downloaded and analyzed via the VictronConnect app. The CCGX also integrates an automatic generator start/stop function, highly customizable based on battery state of charge, voltage, or power demand, with specific rules for quiet periods and optional monthly testing.
Connectivity and system integration
This control panel is compatible with a wide range of Victron products. It features two isolated VE.Direct ports, two isolated VE.Can RJ45 connectors, two isolated VE.Bus RJ45 connectors, and two unisolated USB Host ports. Internet connectivity is provided via an isolated 10/100/1000 MB RJ45 Ethernet port or Wi-Fi using an external USB-Wi-Fi accessory, as the CCGX lacks an internal cellular modem. A USB GPS can be connected to display position and speed on the screen and transmit this data to the VRM portal. The CCGX can also act as a Modbus-TCP gateway for all connected Victron products and supports NMEA 2000 integration for tank sensors and integration with marine MFDs via an app. Software updates can be automatic via the Internet or manual via USB/micro-SD. The system runs on Venus OS (embedded Linux) and supports multiple languages.
Strategic energy management (ESS)
At the heart of energy storage systems (ESS), the Color Control GX acts as a central manager. It can maintain backup batteries at 100%, activate them during power outages, and direct excess solar energy for self-consumption. Its supply voltage range of 8 to 70V DC and operating temperature range of -20 to +50°C ensure robustness suited to marine and industrial environments. The CCGX dimensions are 130 x 120 x 28 mm with a weight of 0.3 kg. Its current consumption ranges from 40mA (screen off at 48V DC) to 245mA (maximum brightness screen at 12V DC).
