Detailed description
Detailed description
The VE.Can term from Victron Energy refers to the advanced communication interface used within its systems, particularly on the SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can solar charge controller range. This interface is designed to optimize energy management by enabling the interconnection and synchronization of multiple devices. SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can charge controllers, such as the 150/70 to 250/100 models, integrate this technology for maximized solar energy harvesting and sophisticated battery management.
MPPT Technology and Efficiency
The SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can series stands out for its ultra-fast maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology. This feature is critical, especially under cloudy skies, where light intensity fluctuates constantly, improving energy harvesting by up to 30% compared to PWM controllers and 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers. In partial shading conditions, the SmartSolar’s innovative algorithm always identifies the global maximum power point, avoiding being stuck on a suboptimal local MPP. These controllers achieve over 98% conversion efficiency without cooling fans, ensuring optimized thermal dissipation.
Connectivity and System Integration
The VE.Can interface allows up to 25 SmartSolar VE.Can charge controllers to be synchronized in series, providing a scalable solution for large-scale solar installations. This connectivity facilitates integration with a GX device (such as a Color Control GX) for centralized monitoring and remote management via the Victron Remote Management (VRM) portal. Additionally, integrated Bluetooth Smart technology enables configuration, monitoring, and firmware updates for controllers via the VictronConnect app, even for synchronization of up to 10 units. VE.Direct and VE.Can ports offer wired connection options for PCs or other devices. The product can also interface with third-party CAN-bus compatible batteries using specific VE.Can to CAN-bus BMS cables (types A or B), allowing the Victron system to monitor and manage these batteries.
Advanced Features and Protection
SmartSolar MPPT VE.Can controllers support automatic battery voltage detection (12/24/48 V, with 36 V configurable manually) and can recharge fully discharged batteries (down to zero volts for undamaged batteries). They offer a flexible, fully programmable charging algorithm with eight preset profiles selectable via a rotary switch, including temperature compensation of -16 mV / -32 mV / -64 mV / °C. Electronic protection is extensive, covering PV polarity reversals, output short circuits, and overheating. A programmable relay allows triggering alarms or other events, and a remote on/off function is available for integration with systems like the VE.BUS BMS. PV terminals (35 mm² / AWG2 for Tr models, or two to three pairs of MC4 connectors for MC4 models) and battery terminals (35 mm² / AWG2) ensure robust connections. The protection category is IP43 for electronic components and IP22 for the connection area.
