Detailed description

The Simrad NAC-3 VRF pack combines the NAC-3 computer, the Precision-9 compass, and the Micro-C starter kit needed to create a NMEA 2000 backbone or connect the autopilot to an existing network. The power unit and autopilot controller are sold separately.

For outboard and sterndrive compatible with VRF

This pack is designed by Simrad for outboard or sterndrive boats over 10 m compatible with virtual tiller feedback. It does not include a physical rudder angle sensor. For a sailboat with a rudder stock and linear drive requiring real rudder angle feedback, the non-VRF NAC-3 pack with RF25N is the suitable choice.

High-current computer

The NAC-3 operates on 12 or 24 V DC and drives a reversible motor up to 30 A continuous, with a 50 A peak for one second. It includes a 30 A slow-blow fuse and communicates via NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183. Its housing is rated IPX2: it must be installed in a dry, protected location.

The pack includes a NAC-3 computer, a Precision-9 compass, and a Micro-C/NMEA 2000 network starter kit. A compatible power unit and dedicated controller or a compatible Simrad multifunction display must be added.

« Select the VRF only for a compatible architecture »

The VRF simplifies installations on outboard and sterndrive motors, but it does not automatically replace a rudder angle sensor on a sailboat with a rudder post. For mechanical steering with linear drive, choose the NAC-3 non-VRF pack with RF25N after validating the geometry, cylinder current, and wiring.

Is the RF25N rudder angle sensor included?

No. This pack uses virtual rudder feedback on compatible installations. For a sailboat with a skeg rudder or an architecture requiring physical angle feedback, choose the NAC-3 non-VRF pack with RF25N.

Are the power unit and controller included?

No. You need to add a power unit compatible with the steering system as well as a dedicated controller or a Simrad multifunction display.

Should a second NMEA 2000 starter kit be added?

No. The pack already includes everything needed to create a Micro-C/NMEA 2000 backbone. Additional extensions or connectors are only useful if the boat's layout requires them.

What drive power can the NAC-3 control?

The reversible engine output accepts 30 A continuous and 50 A for one second, at 12 or 24 V DC. The power unit, cables, and protection sizing must be verified for each installation.

Where to install the NAC-3 processor?
