The AMEC B620 Class B AIS transponder is a marine communication solution designed to enhance the safety at sea for recreational boats and small fishing vessels. This transponder uses the CSTDMA (Carrier-Sense Time Division Multiple Access) access scheme and transmits at 2 Watts, ensuring reliable detection by other AIS-equipped vessels.

Connectivity and System Integration

The B620 features multiple interfaces for flexible integration with your existing navigation system. It provides NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000, and USB connections, allowing it to interface with chartplotters, PCs, or other marine electronic equipment. The transponder supports a wide range of NMEA 2000 PGNs for data transmission, including Class A and B AIS position reports (129038, 129039, 129040), GNSS position data (129029), vessel heading (127250), and fast COG/SOG updates (129026). It also transmits essential NMEA 0183 sentences such as GGA, RMC, GLL, VDM, and VDO.

GNSS Performance and Robustness

Incorporating a GNSS receiver, the AMEC B620 supports GNSS systems. Built for marine environments, the device has compact dimensions of 151.22 x 128.57 x 49.87 mm and weighs 400 g. It operates on a supply voltage range of 9.6 V to 31.2 V DC (nominal 12 V / 24 V DC) and supports operating temperatures from -25 °C to +55 °C. Intuitive LED indicators (Power, Error, Tx-off, Warning) provide a visual status of the transponder’s operation.
