Sleipner SX80/185T 24V stern thruster

Designed for vessels from 10 to 15 meters (32 to 49 feet), the external Sleipner SX80/185T 24V stern thruster offers a maneuvering solution for boats where installing an internal thruster is complex or impossible, particularly those equipped with twin inboard engines or twin sterndrives. This system delivers 80 kg of thrust at 21V DC and up to 96 kg at 24V DC, with a power output of 4.4 kW (5.90 hp).

Design and performance

The Sleipner SX80/185T is an external thruster supplied fully assembled, wired, and sealed in a watertight housing. Installation requires only a small hole in the transom for power and control cables. It features Q-PROP™ technology with a 5-blade skewed composite fiberglass-reinforced propeller, reducing noise by up to 75% in controlled environments. The dual-propeller system ensures increased thrust within a 185 mm tunnel diameter, contributing to high performance in a compact design. Its hydrodynamic design minimizes water resistance, enabling high speeds without noticeable loss.

Safety and durability

The SX80/185T includes several features for safety and longevity. The Intelligent Power Control system minimizes delay between direction changes, reducing mechanical wear and monitoring solenoid operation, automatically stopping the thruster if a solenoid is blocked. Overheat protection shuts down the system if internal temperatures rise too high. All submerged components are galvanically isolated from the vessel’s electrical system, preventing stray currents and corrosion. The drive lubrication is sealed for life with a durable mechanical seal (ceramic and carbon surfaces), providing protection against water intrusion. The thruster is also spark-protected, allowing safe installation on gasoline-powered boats. Optional fairings can be added for optimal performance on twin sterndrive vessels.
