Detailed description
Detailed description
Designed for marine and embedded electrical systems, the BLUE SEA e-Series Selector 3-Position Battery Switch with AFD (part number 11001) provides reliable management of two battery banks. This 3-position switch (battery 1, battery 2, off) is specifically intended for high-power applications requiring proven reliability and low heat generation, such as boats equipped with inboard gasoline or diesel engines.
Performance and Technical Specifications
Model 11001 delivers electrical performance with a 1,200 A cranking capacity for 30 seconds. It supports an intermittent current of 600 A (5 minutes) and a continuous current of 350 A at 32 V DC. Its tinned copper 3/8"-16 (M10) stud terminals ensure maximum conductivity and corrosion resistance, with a length of 22.22 mm to accept multiple cable lugs. The recommended tightening torque is 15.82 N·m (140 in-lb). To achieve its rated values, use of 4/0 AWG (120 mm²) cables is required.
Advanced Features and Compliance
A distinctive feature of the 11001 is its Alternator Field Disconnect (AFD) function, which protects the alternator diodes in case of engine-running switch disconnection by reducing the alternator output to zero. This protection is critical for the longevity of the charging system. The switch is also ignition-protected, meeting SAE J1171, UL 1500, and ISO 8846 requirements, making it safe for installation on gasoline-powered boats. It complies with ABYC battery switch requirements and is UL 1107 listed. Its housing allows surface or rear-panel mounting, offering installation flexibility. Unlike the e-Series Selector 4-Position or Dual Circuit Plus models, this switch does not feature "make-before-break" operation when switching between banks 1 and 2, requiring the "OFF" position to be selected before changing banks.
