Detailed description
Detailed description
The CYCLOPS Smartbatten T2 (SBS02) is a wireless compression sensor designed for direct, real-time measurement of sail batten tension. This system enables optimization of sail trim and ensures reproducible batten tensions, contributing to consistent performance on the water.
Wireless measurement technology
The Smartbatten T2 integrates wireless sensor technology to provide real-time load data. It transmits information via Bluetooth to the CYCLOPS Smartfittings Manager app (available on iOS and Android) or, via a dedicated gateway (sold separately), to compatible onboard instruments supporting NMEA2000, NMEA0183, NKE, UDP, and MQTT. Users can view and analyze live load data or record it for post-sailing analysis to identify areas for improvement.
Design and technical specifications
Built for demanding marine environments, the Smartbatten T2 features a Ti6Al4V titanium alloy body and a PC/ABS housing. It is calibrated with an accuracy of ±1% of the maximum working load (MWL) across a temperature range of -10 to +40°C. The sensor can measure loads up to 400 kg. Despite its robustness, the sensor alone weighs 62 g, with a net impact of 44 g per batten once installed (including adapter and compression block, excluding the removed batten section). It is powered by a 0.925 Wh lithium polymer battery, offering up to 80 days of battery life in "Powered on" mode (1 Hz) and up to 500 days in "Extended use" mode (0.25 Hz). Wireless inductive charging takes approximately 1 hour.
Installation and use
Installing the Smartbatten T2 involves partial replacement of a batten section. The system is designed to fit directly onto C-Tech CT25 battens, with other adapter sizes available on request. The sensor offers three operating modes (powered, extended use, off) and can be activated or deactivated remotely via the CYCLOPS app. Real-time batten tension monitoring is critical for racing sailboats from 40 to 80 feet, large monohulls or multihulls, and performance sails, enabling precise sail shape control and increased safety by preventing overloads.
