Detailed description
Detailed description
Developed in collaboration with headsail furling system manufacturers, the CYCLOPS Smarttoggle 4.5t 12.7mm is a wireless load sensor designed for marine applications. It provides real-time load data, optimizing sail performance and onboard safety. This sensor is intended for inline installation between your headsail furler and the sail luff line.
Technical specifications and performance
The Smarttoggle 4.5t 12.7mm offers a maximum working load (MWL) of 4.5 tonnes (4,500 kg) and features a 12.7 mm pin diameter. Its accuracy is ±1% of calibrated load, maintained between -10 and +40°C. The sensor body is made of aluminum Al6082-T6, with an acetal housing, and is IP67 certified for splash and dust resistance. It operates at a 1 Hz frequency.
Connectivity and data analysis
This wireless sensor uses Bluetooth technology to connect directly to the Cyclops Marine smartphone app (available on iOS and Android) or, via the optional Smartfittings Gateway, to onboard electronic systems. The app allows real-time load monitoring, configurable update rates up to 10 Hz, and sensor activation/deactivation. It also includes a logging function for post-sail data analysis and a "Load Talk" feature to audibly monitor loads via headphones. The Gateway, designed for under-deck mounting and IP54 rated, wirelessly receives data from up to 50 sensors and transmits via NMEA2000, NMEA0183, NKE, UDP, and MQTT. It logs data for post-race analysis and can process load data with trigonometric functions to display the load-sharing percentage between the sail and rigging.
Power and usage
The Smarttoggle is powered by an internal 0.925Wh lithium-polymer battery, offering 2,000 hours of operation in "Powered on" mode, 8,000 hours in "Extended use" mode (0.25 Hz), and up to 2 years in "Powered off" mode. Wireless charging is supported. An LED indicates battery status and operating mode.
