Designed for demanding marine environments, the FT743-D-SM KIT-1.5 ultrasonic wind sensor kit from FT Technologies provides accurate and reliable measurement of wind speed and direction. This digital sensor integrates FT Technologies’ patented Acu-Res® technology, which automatically compensates for variations in temperature, pressure, and humidity to deliver stable data. With a wind speed measurement range of 0 to 75 m/s and RS485 connectivity, this model is a robust solution for applications requiring high data integrity.
Design and technical performance
The FT743-D-SM stands out for its lack of moving parts, significantly reducing maintenance requirements and increasing long-term reliability. Its hard-anodized aluminum construction provides corrosion resistance to C5-M class and IP67 protection, ensuring operation even after temporary immersion or in intense dust conditions. The sensor operates within an extended temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C and features integrated thermostatically controlled heating, configurable from 0 to 55 °C, to prevent icing. Weighing 252 g (sensor only) and 0.1 kg (cable), it is lightweight and compact. It is powered by 6 to 30 VDC (minimum 2A).
Integration and positioning within the FT Technologies range
The FT743-D-SM KIT-1.5 kit includes the FT743-D-SM wind sensor and a 1.5m FT009 cable, specifically designed for use with FT742-SM and FT743-SM sensors. This cable is rated for 30VDC / 2A and has a minimum bending radius of 70 mm. Compared to the FT6 series, which is lighter at 170 g, the FT743-D-SM from the FT7 series offers a potentially higher wind speed range (up to 90 m/s for the FT7 series in general) and robustness suitable for the most demanding applications. The FT743-D-SM differs from models like the FT702LT, which provides 4-20 mA analog outputs in addition to RS485, by focusing on digital RS485 connectivity for simplified integration into modern systems. Each sensor is factory-calibrated and requires no scheduled recalibration, ensuring data availability exceeding 99.9%.
