Detailed description
Detailed description
The Garmin GPSMAP 1623 (SKU: 010-02919-00) is a multifunction chartplotter from the GPSMAP 16x3 series, designed for marine applications requiring extended system integration and detailed visualization. Positioned for demanding navigators, it stands out with its 15.6-inch (39.7 cm diagonal) IPS FHD touchscreen, offering a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This display ensures enhanced readability in bright sunlight and from various angles, including with polarized lenses, and integrates seamlessly thanks to its "edge-to-edge" design.
Navigation and Sonar Capabilities
With its 10 Hz GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo) receiver, the GPSMAP 1623 provides precise tracking of position, speed, and ground course (COG). It ships with a worldwide base map and is compatible with Garmin Navionics+™ charts, including Auto Guidance+™ technology and a one-year subscription for daily updates. An upgrade to Garmin Navionics Vision+™ charts is available for premium features such as high-resolution terrain shading and satellite imagery. In terms of sonar, this unit supports Ultra High-Definition SideVü and ClearVü scanning sonars via external transducers (sold separately), offering high-contrast color palettes for better target distinction. It also supports traditional 1 kW sonar capabilities via external modules and is compatible with Panoptix™ live sonar and LiveScope™ systems (transducers sold separately).
Connectivity and Network Integration
The Garmin GPSMAP 1623 serves as a central element for a modern marine network. It features two Garmin Marine Network ports, one NMEA 2000® port, one NMEA 0183 input port, and one NMEA 0183 output port, along with a J1939 port for engine integration. Connectivity is further enhanced by USB ports, Bluetooth® pairing, ANT+® technology, and an integrated Garmin Wi-Fi® network for local connections. For video, it provides a BNC composite video input and an HDMI output, enabling comprehensive monitoring via network and composite cameras, with direct touchscreen control from the chartplotter. Sail-specific features, such as Garmin SailAssist™, include layline lines, regatta start line guidance, an enhanced wind rose, and real-time wind data display. For fishing, it supports integration with Force® electric motors and Power-Pole® shallow-water anchors. Compatibility with the ActiveCaptain® app and quatix® marine watches via ANT+® enhances the user experience, while support for inReach® messaging adds an extra layer of safety. The unit operates on 10 to 32 V DC and can be mounted flush, recessed, or flat, with dimensions of 38.4 cm x 26.2 cm x 7.6 cm and a weight of 4.4 kg.
