Expert opinion

« Installation Flexibility for Garmin Transducers »

This Garmin mount is an essential accessory for boaters and anglers seeking maximum flexibility in transducer positioning. Its design allows for reliable installation on the transom or directly on an electric motor, a particularly valued option for fishing applications where the transducer must precisely follow the motor's orientation for optimal detection of structures and fish. It is ideal for vessels where mounting versatility is a major asset.

The primary advantage lies in the ability to switch between a fixed mount and a steerable mount with the motor. This allows adaptation to different fishing techniques or navigation conditions without requiring multiple transducers or complex installations. When mounting on an electric motor, attention must be paid to cable routing to avoid any interference with the propeller or steering mechanism. For transom mounting, precise alignment is crucial to avoid cavitation and optimize the transducer beam. This mount is a judicious choice for those seeking an adaptable and durable mounting solution for their Garmin ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Need help? Contact us

What is this Garmin 010-12006-20 mount used for?

This bracket is designed to mount a transducer on a boat's transom or an electric motor. It allows for a stable and secure installation of your transducer, optimizing its performance for fishing or navigation.

Can this mount be installed on a boat's transom?

Yes, this mount is specifically designed for installation on a boat's transom. This fastening is suitable for permanent placement of the transducer.

Is it possible to mount this bracket on an electric motor?

Absolutely. This mount is also designed for installation on an electric motor, which is particularly useful for trolling or for use in shallow waters, providing operational flexibility.

Is the mount supplied with the transducer?

No, this product is only the transducer mount (reference 010-12006-20). The transducer is sold separately and must be purchased according to your specific needs.

What are the advantages of an electric motor installation?

Installation on an electric motor allows optimized use for trolling and in shallow waters. It offers better maneuverability of the transducer and increased protection against underwater obstacles, as the transducer is often raised with the motor.

Is the support resistant to saltwater?

Yes, like most Garmin marine accessories, this mount is designed with corrosion-resistant materials for durable use in a marine environment, including saltwater.

What is included in the box with this mount?

The box contents include the transducer mount itself and the necessary mounting hardware for its installation, whether on a transom or an electric motor. Mounting instructions are generally provided or available online.

Is this mount compatible with transducers from brands other than Garmin?

This mount is specifically designed for the Garmin transducers mentioned in its compatibility list. While there may be similarities, compatibility with transducers from other brands is not guaranteed and is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Can the transducer's angle be adjusted once installed on this mount?

Yes, the mount design typically allows some degree of adjustment of the transducer angle after installation. This enables you to optimize the transducer's position to achieve the best detection performance based on conditions and your boat's speed.

Is the mount easy to install for a beginner?

The installation of this mount is designed to be relatively straightforward. The user manual provides detailed step-by-step instructions. For a transom installation, basic marine DIY skills are useful.

What are the dimensions of this mount?

The bracket's weight is 0.08 kg. Exact dimensions may vary slightly, but it is designed to be compact and discreet once installed. For precise measurements, please consult the product manual.

Is this mount suitable for all types of boats?

This mount is versatile and suitable for most small and medium boats equipped with a transom or an electric motor. It is particularly adapted to fishing boats and pleasure craft.

Is this a permanent mount, or can it be easily removed?

Transom mounting is generally considered a permanent installation. However, mounting on an electric motor can be more easily reversible if you use quick-release fastening systems or if you wish to remove it for transport or storage.

What tools are required for the installation of this mount?

The necessary tools vary slightly depending on the type of installation (transom or electric motor). Generally, you will need a drill, drill bits appropriate for your boat's material, a screwdriver (Phillips or flat-head depending on the screws provided), and possibly a wrench for tightening bolts.

Does the mount protect the transducer from impacts?

The mount is designed to securely hold the transducer. However, for optimal shock protection during high-speed navigation or in shallow areas, it is recommended to raise the transducer or use additional protection if necessary, especially with transom mounts.

How to choose between transom mounting or electric motor mounting?

The choice depends on your usage. Transom mounting is ideal for a fixed installation and consistent readings at all speeds. Electric motor mounting is preferable for trolling, shallow waters, or when you want the flexibility to easily raise the transducer.

Is this mount supplied with mounting hardware (screws, nuts)?

Yes, the mount is generally supplied with the standard mounting hardware required for its installation on the transom or electric motor, including the appropriate screws and nuts.
