Detailed description
The Humminbird XPLORE 10 touchscreen combo is designed for navigation and underwater detection. This unit is part of the Humminbird XPLORE™ series. Installation of the XPLORE control head is detailed to ensure optimal integration aboard.
Installation of the control head
The XPLORE 10 control head can be mounted in a traditional manner or suspended using the supplied clamp bracket. Installation requires planning the location to ensure a stable surface protected from shocks, vibrations, and water, while providing adequate visibility. Sufficient space is required for the unit’s tilt and cable routing. A 31.75 mm (1 1/4") hole must be drilled 50–100 mm (2" to 4") behind the chosen mounting location for cable routing. The clamp bracket screws must be tightened by hand to secure the unit.
Power and connectivity
The XPLORE 10 combo requires a 12 VDC power supply. A 5 A slow-blow fuse (or equivalent MDL type) is required to protect the unit. The included power cable is 2 m (6 ft) long and can be shortened or extended using 16 AWG multistrand copper wire. For extensions of 1 to 12 ft, 12 AWG wire is recommended, and for 12 to 24 ft, 10 AWG wire is recommended. Connections can be made at the boat’s fuse panel or directly to the battery. It is advisable to separate the combo’s power supply from that of a trolling motor to minimize interference. The combo features an optional NMEA 2000® port for integration with other marine systems. Optional Ethernet and accessory cables can also be connected.
Cable routing and system testing
All cables, including those for the transducer, power, Ethernet, and accessories, must be routed to the control head. It is recommended to keep them away from VHF antenna or tachometer cables to reduce interference. Connectors are designed to prevent incorrect installation and must be tightened by hand. After installation, a system test is recommended: verify GPS position (Enhanced Fix or 3D Fix) and detection of connected accessories. A sonar test must be performed to finalize the transducer installation, after which the combo is ready for use at sea.
