Detailed description
Detailed description
The Lowrance HALO20+ radar is a 20-inch (510 mm) pulse-compression radome, specifically designed for coastal fishing vessels and recreational boats in bays. It integrates VelocityTrack™ Doppler technology for instant, color-coded detection of targets approaching or moving away, enhancing situational awareness and collision avoidance. With a maximum range of 36 nautical miles (89 km) and a minimum range of 6 meters, the HALO20+ offers versatile radar coverage. Its ultra-fast rotation speed of 60 rpm at ranges up to 1.5 nm provides near real-time viewing, essential for rapid obstacle avoidance. InstantOn™ technology enables instant startup from standby mode, eliminating the warm-up time of traditional magnetron radars.
Advanced Technology for Enhanced Detection and Safety
The HALO20+ uses pulse-compression technology with beam sharpening, improving detection and separation of small or distant targets. Its nominal horizontal beam width is 4.9° (-3 dB), and can be sharpened to 2.5° for better target separation in high mode. In comparison, the HALO24 model offers a narrower beam width of approximately 2.0° nominal, which is preferable for vessels requiring finer target discrimination over longer distances. The HALO20+ supports MARPA target tracking for up to 10 targets, or 20 targets in dual-range simultaneous mode. This capability allows users to monitor distant weather cells and collision risks at short range simultaneously, a feature not available on more basic pulse radars.
Integration and Operation Modes
The HALO20+ operates on a supply voltage of 10.5 to 31.2 V DC and consumes between 17 and 29 W in operation (3.9 W in standby at 13.8 V DC). Its IPX6 rating ensures resistance to marine conditions with an operating temperature range of -25°C to +55°C. It is designed to interface with Lowrance multifunction displays (MFD) via 100Base-T Ethernet and includes preconfigured operation modes (Harbor, Offshore, Weather, Birds) to optimize radar settings based on conditions. The HALO20+ sits between the HALO20 (without VelocityTrack or dual-range simultaneous mode) and the HALO24 (larger antenna and better target discrimination), offering a balance between performance, compactness, and a set of advanced features for coastal navigation and fishing.
