Detailed description
The Lowrance Outboard Pilot cable Steer pack is a complete autopilot system designed for boats equipped with a single outboard motor and cable steering, up to 9 meters (30 feet) in length. This system provides intuitive control of the autopilot directly from compatible Simrad and Lowrance multifunction displays, eliminating the need for a dedicated control unit.
Simplified integration and control
This pack integrates autopilot control with Lowrance multifunction displays (HDS Gen2, Gen3, Carbon) and Simrad (GO, NSS EVO2, EVO3, NSO EVO2 series). The SmartSteer™ interface, specific to Lowrance users, allows control of both cable-steered outboard motors and MotorGuide Xi5 Pinpoint electric motors. The system includes advanced features such as automatic turn patterns for efficient maneuvers and depth curve tracking, optimized for fishing along drop-offs or maintaining a specific depth. It also simplifies the creation of "one-touch" routes from recorded tracks, enabling the replication of previous courses.
Components and installation
The Outboard Pilot cable Steer pack includes all necessary components for installation. It comprises the NAC-1 autopilot computer, the HELM-1 cable-driven helm drive unit, the Point-1 AP heading and GPS sensor, an Auto/Standby button, and NMEA 2000 network components (cables, 4-way block, terminations, power cable). The HELM-1 drive unit integrates an outboard position sensor (Virtual Rudder Feedback - VRF), eliminating the need for an external mechanical rudder angle sensor. The system is designed for simplified installation with plug-and-socket connections, reducing wiring complexity.
Key technical specifications
The system operates on 12V DC. The NAC-1 autopilot computer delivers 8A continuous and 16A peak current. The HELM-1 unit has IPX5 protection, supports a motor load from 1.3A (idle) up to 5A (max), and a maximum thrust of 1,300N (290 lbs). It weighs 4.6 kg and operates in temperatures from -15°C to +75°C. The Point-1 AP sensor, with IPX7 protection, offers a heading accuracy of +/- 3° and horizontal accuracy of 3 meters. It weighs 0.14 kg and operates between -25°C and +60°C. The Auto/Standby button is also IPX5 rated and operates from -25°C to +55°C. The system is compatible with Morse 290, Morse 304411, and Teleflex SSC52 cable steering systems.
