Detailed description

The Raymarine EV-400 Sail Pilot T70161 is an autopilot pack for large sailboats. It includes the EV-1 sensor, the ACU-400 power unit, the p70s control display, the rotary rudder angle sensor, and the Evolution SeaTalkng wiring kit.

The ACU-400’s role is to drive the autopilot’s power unit. According to Raymarine specifications, its motor output accepts up to 30 A continuous at the supply voltage, with clutch output up to 4 A. This pack is therefore intended for installations more demanding than an EV-100 or EV-200.

The pack does not include the drive or the final mechanical/hydraulic power unit. It must be supplemented with a Raymarine-compatible drive, typically Type 2 or Type 3 depending on the boat and rudder system, and carefully sized before installation.

« EV-400 Sail: the expert's review »

The EV-400 is the appropriate level of pack when the installation exceeds the scope of an EV-100/EV-200: large sailboat, higher helm load, need for an ACU-400 and a rudder angle feedback. Before ordering, I must validate the drive type, voltage, space for the ACU-400, and the SeaTalkng routing. The pack includes the autopilot electronics, not the final actuator.
