What is the IS216 detector used for?

The IS216 is a PIR motion detector designed to monitor an interior or technical area. In a Maretron installation, it can be used to display a motion status and trigger an alert via the SIM100 module.

Does the IS216 connect directly to NMEA 2000?

No. The Maretron manual states that the IS216 connects to a free channel on the SIM100 Switch Indicator Module. It is the SIM100 that then publishes the status on the NMEA 2000 network.

What power supply is required?

The installation manual specifies connecting the V+ and V- terminals of the IS216 to a 9-16 VDC power supply properly protected by a fuse.

What type of sensor is used for detection?

The IS216 uses the NC and C terminals of the normally closed relay. When motion is detected, the relay opens and the SIM100 interprets the state as a detection condition.

Is any configuration required on the SIM100 side?

Yes. The SIM100 channel must be configured for the sensor’s use, particularly with the No End of Line Resistor mode, a clear label, and then a display or alert in DSM/N2KView depending on the installation.

Why can a wire or power cut trigger the alert?

The Maretron documentation states that lack of movement, a power cut, or a disconnected wire will change the state transmitted to the SIM100. This behavior is intentional to also signal a power loss or a communication failure.
