The Raymarine mechanical linear actuator type 2 long 24V is an autopilot actuator designed for sailboats requiring high thrust force and extended travel. Unlike type 1 models or short versions, this long actuator offers greater stroke length, making it suitable for tiller systems where the attachment point on the quadrant requires a larger range of motion. Powered by 24V, it ensures fast and powerful response while optimizing onboard power consumption and cable cross-section.
Optimal integration with Raymarine computers
This mechanical actuator is designed to connect directly to Raymarine heading computers, such as ACU models or older SPX generations. To ensure optimal electromagnetic performance (EMC) and avoid voltage drops, it is essential to use cables with a cross-section matched to the circuit length: 4 mm² up to 3 meters, 6 mm² up to 5 meters, and up to 16 mm² for lengths reaching 16 meters. Power must come from a battery bank independent of the engine starting battery to prevent voltage drops below 10V that could reset the system.
Precision installation and maintenance
The actuator comes with a complete mounting kit including the tiller arm pin, an R-pin, locking washers, and a 1/2-inch Nylock nut. Installation requires high precision: the push rod must be perfectly aligned with the tiller arm's rotation plane, with a strict tolerance of less than 5 degrees at mid-stroke. To maintain maximum reliability over time, Raymarine recommends servicing the actuator every 1000 hours of use or every 2 years by an authorized service center.
